Keep Your Mind Active and Busy

Keep the focus off of yourself and direct your time and energy towards something productive that you’re passionate about. You can do this a few different ways:

· Returning to school. This provides you with a solid life goal and allows you to have a more structured daily schedule.

· Teaching yourself a new hobby or skill. Allow yourself to indulge in something fun like playing a sport, painting, or volunteering at an organization you care about.

· Get a pet. Pets require your care, they provide companionship, and they give you more motivation to stay focused on a structured daily schedule.

· Find a job. Finding a job will help you earn money that you can put towards good, healthy goals like saving, investing, or paying off debt. In doing so, your sense of self-esteem and self-sufficiency will rise.

Check in on your Mental State

From time to time, we get down on ourselves, which can sometimes lead to negative, self-destructive behaviors. That’s why it’s important to actively check on your mental state on a daily basis to get ahead of problems before they arise.

Have a Strong Support System in Place

A support system can include family, friends, or a mentor. Be sure you have someone you can turn to for encouragement and support when you’re struggling. You aren’t meant to pursue sobriety on your own!

Seek Professional Support When You Need It

You can seek professional support in a few ways. Consider a rehab program to help you stay on track, or find a counselor you can talk with. Both will allow you to stay focused on your sobriety and help you work through negative thoughts and behavior patterns.

Eat Healthier

Take good care of your body by eating healthy, clean food. Ingesting the nutrients you need will help you fend off cravings and feel more satisfied overall. Don’t cut corners when it comes to a healthy diet.

Get Plenty of Exercise

When you’re trying to stay clean and sober, physical fitness is key. Choose an activity you enjoy and set fitness goals for yourself. When you do so, you’ll have more motivation to keep training and stay clean so that you can achieve your goals.

Get Enough Rest

It’s hard to form good habits when you’re sleep-deprived, and it’s even more difficult to fight off temptations. Make sleep a priority!

Avoid Friends Who Tempt You with your Addiction

If you have former friends who have tempted you with your addiction in the past, you should do your best to avoid them. This will rid yourself of any possibility of breaking your sobriety.

Find New Friends Who Encourage Your Sobriety

You may find new friends that share similar hobbies or interests, but the most important thing is to make sure that they will encourage you to pursue healthy habits and activities.

Avoid Situations that Aided Your Addiction

If you were previously tempted to partake in your addiction at bars, certain parties, or specific events, make a point of avoiding these places at all costs! This will remove the temptation altogether.
